Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall F
ValueC NeedB- TradesF FutureD
The Capehart reach set the tone, and the Buccaneers never recovered: F.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Buccaneers did exactly that with DeMonte Capehart in the 257th overall pick. Little went right, and the F does not pretend otherwise.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That McCaffrey pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Payton Wilson
In pick No. 26 they get a green-dot type in the middle, reach and all. Need was not the driver here.
Pick58 Rnd2 Zach Frazier
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zach Frazier. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick94 Rnd3 James Williams
A real head-scratcher, James Williams in pick 94 is miles ahead of his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick98 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
They paid sticker price for Brenden Rice in the 98th overall pick, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick125 Rnd4 Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick at slot 125 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick126 Rnd4 Jalyx Hunt
Jalyx Hunt in the 126th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick132 Rnd4 Khristian Boyd
They left a pile of value on the table to take Khristian Boyd this early at No. 132. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick203 Rnd6 Luke McCaffrey
They will replay Luke McCaffrey at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick243 Rnd7 Brevyn Spann-Ford
Fair-plus on Brevyn Spann-Ford, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick244 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
Sam Hartman in the 244th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick249 Rnd7 Rasheen Ali
Rasheen Ali in pick 249 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick251 Rnd7 Gabe Hall
Circle this one: Gabe Hall at pick No. 251 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick253 Rnd7 Marcellas Dial
They went early on Marcellas Dial in slot 253, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick254 Rnd7 Omar Brown
A wild overpay on Omar Brown in Round 7, Pick 34, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick255 Rnd7 Jawhar Jordan
They paid a round early for Jawhar Jordan in pick No. 255, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick257 Rnd7 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at No. 257 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
