Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B-.

The 49ers put a flag in the ground for Miles Frazier, 102 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Ersery. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Will Johnson
In the 11th pick they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. More want than need.
Pick43 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
A slide stopped in No. 43, with Malaki Starks worth more than the price. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick75 Rnd3 Aireontae Ersery
Taking Aireontae Ersery in pick No. 75 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips at pick 99 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick112 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at Round 4, Pick 11 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Miles Frazier
Value said wait; Miles Frazier in slot 138 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick139 Rnd4 JJ Pegues
They talked themselves into JJ Pegues at the 139th pick, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick148 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dont'e Thornton Jr.. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick189 Rnd6 DJ Giddens
Steal is underselling it; DJ Giddens at pick 189 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick228 Rnd7 R.J. Mickens
R.J. Mickens in Round 7, Pick 10 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick232 Rnd7 Clay Webb
A reach for Clay Webb in the Round 7 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick255 Rnd7 Jaylin Lane
They reached into another round for Jaylin Lane, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
