There is reaching, and then there is Patrick Payton at pick No. 177. The Cowboys jumped the board by 70 and dared it to prove them wrong. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.

On value alone, Bernard makes the weekend a net positive. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.

It is not that McNeil-Warren is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
