Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Chiefs let Neal fall and pounced. Final grade: D-.

The Kalil Alexander pick is the one that will follow the Chiefs into the fall. They took him 31 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

That Neal pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and offensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 David Bailey
In the 9th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick40 Rnd2 Kenyon Sadiq
They barely believed it either: Kenyon Sadiq still on the board at the Round 2 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick74 Rnd3 Jadarian Price
They read the board right and Jadarian Price was the payoff at No. 74. It fills a real need, too.
Pick109 Rnd4 Julian Neal
The board fumbled Julian Neal all the way to Round 4, Pick 9, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick122 Rnd4 CJ Daniels
They paid sticker price for CJ Daniels in the 122nd overall pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick146 Rnd5 Tanner Koziol
Tanner Koziol at Round 5, Pick 8 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick151 Rnd5 Aaron Graves
They took Aaron Graves at par in pick No. 151, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick176 Rnd5 Bud Clark
A straight-up fair deal on Bud Clark at No. 176, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick187 Rnd6 Kalil Alexander
A real head-scratcher, Kalil Alexander in the Round 6 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
