GarryD DRAFTING FOR THEBroncos

Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall

FutureB-
The Broncos bet the future on McCarthy. The board says B. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Broncos' quarterback, full stop. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They will need Jackson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Washington pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
J.J. McCarthy
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick73
Rnd3
Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright in pick No. 73 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick76
Rnd3
Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul in pick 76 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick84
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick88
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
By-the-book stuff, Khyree Jackson at No. 88 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick102
Rnd4
Cam Hart
No drama and no debate, Cam Hart went about where he belonged in the 102nd overall pick. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick106
Rnd4
Jalen McMillan
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jalen McMillan in the 106th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick121
Rnd4
Brennan Jackson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Brennan Jackson this early at slot 121. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick136
Rnd4
Christian Jones
A tidy little value on Christian Jones in pick 136, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick145
Rnd5
Dallin Holker
Dallin Holker at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick146
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
No edge and no loss on Tommy Eichenberg in No. 146; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jarrian Jones in the 147th overall pick. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick176
Rnd6
Layden Robinson
Layden Robinson in Round 6, Pick 1 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick203
Rnd6
Tahj Washington
They let Tahj Washington come to them and pounced at pick No. 203. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
