Lo DRAFTING FOR THEPanthers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Melton should have been long gone. The Panthers pounced, and earned a B. The Panthers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Max Melton fell into pick No. 101. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Amarius Mims
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Amarius Mims at the 33rd pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick39
Rnd2
Adonai Mitchell
Nice patience on Adonai Mitchell, who had no business lasting to the 39th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick65
Rnd3
Chris Braswell
They will replay Chris Braswell at Round 3, Pick 1 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick101
Rnd4
Max Melton
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 101 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick142
Rnd5
Beau Brade
A quiet steal in slot 142: Beau Brade for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick166
Rnd5
Nehemiah Pritchett
Somehow Nehemiah Pritchett was still sitting there in pick 166, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick240
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. at No. 240 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
