The Bills lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

With linebacker, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on DT-EDGE is the choice that costs them. Every board in the league had Smith lower, and that gap is the story. The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
