Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D-
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureC
The Steelers let Jones fall and pounced. Final grade: D-.

Boards are made to be trusted, and the Steelers shredded theirs for Joe Milton III. He came off 32 spots early, and the room will hear about it. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In pick 14 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that.
Pick51 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 19: Edgerrin Cooper for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick84 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
A clean, defensible pick in No. 84 with a little surplus value in Sedrick Van Pran. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick120 Rnd4 Cole Bishop
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cole Bishop at the 120th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick121 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
A straight-up fair deal on Johnny Wilson at the 121st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick167 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in No. 167 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick197 Rnd6 Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones at slot 197 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick201 Rnd6 Eric Watts
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Eric Watts. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick238 Rnd7 Garret Greenfield
Garret Greenfield at pick 238 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
