FutureB
The Jets bet the future on Mendoza. The board says B+. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Jets committed. Fernando Mendoza is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
On value alone, Allar makes the weekend a net positive. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.
If Mendoza pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick35
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
Anthony Hill Jr. in the 35th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick45
Rnd2
Denzel Boston
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Denzel Boston at No. 45. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick104
Rnd4
Brian Parker II
Brian Parker II at pick No. 104 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
Pick200
Rnd6
Oscar Delp
Nice patience on Oscar Delp, who had no business lasting to the 200th pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick202
Rnd6
Drew Allar
Drew Allar in pick 202 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick210
Rnd6
Makhi Hughes
By-the-book stuff, Makhi Hughes at slot 210 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick216
Rnd7
DeAndre Moore Jr.
DeAndre Moore Jr. in Round 7, Pick 1 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick230
Rnd7
Barion Brown
Barion Brown at the 230th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick236
Rnd7
James Smith
A straight-up fair deal on James Smith at slot 236, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick254
Rnd7
Shamar Easter
A quiet steal in the Round 7 slot: Shamar Easter for less than the market said. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick256
Rnd7
Fernando Carmona
Fernando Carmona at No. 256 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
