The board owed the Lions one, and it paid up: Jaylin Simpson, the No. 137 name on the board, sitting there at the 164th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.

Reaching for Hart left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
