Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB+
Williams is the plan now, and the Bears grade out a A-.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Bears' quarterback, full stop.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Every board in the league had Smith lower, and that gap is the story. On value alone, Arnold makes the weekend a net positive.

The linebacker hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In pick 2 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick6 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In slot 6 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick9 Rnd1 Jared Verse
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick27 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 27 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick35 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan at the 35th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick40 Rnd2 Terrion Arnold
They will replay Terrion Arnold at the Round 2 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick47 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
They paid sticker price for Cooper Beebe in No. 47, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick66 Rnd3 T'Vondre Sweat
Steal is underselling it; T'Vondre Sweat at the 66th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick71 Rnd3 DJ James
DJ James at pick 71 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick75 Rnd3 Cade Stover
Cade Stover in the 75th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick78 Rnd3 Maason Smith
Maason Smith at the Round 3 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick122 Rnd4 Will Shipley
Will Shipley is a better player than the 122nd overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
