Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall C-
ValueC NeedB TradesF FutureC+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Ravens to a C-.

There is reaching, and then there is Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 137. The Ravens jumped the board by 45 and dared it to prove them wrong. For now it grades a C-, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They banked enough surplus on Lampkin to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Spending an early pick on specialist with running back open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.

Pick Analysis
Pick33 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
A real head-scratcher, Donovan Ezeiruaku in the Round 2 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick56 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in slot 56 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick66 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
They went early on Andrew Mukuba in the 66th pick, and the value did not follow. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick81 Rnd3 Charles Grant
Charles Grant in the 81st overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick108 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
They paid sticker price for Jordan Phillips in pick No. 108, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick116 Rnd4 Cody Simon
A premium they did not need to pay, Cody Simon a notch or two before his time. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick129 Rnd4 O'Donnell Fortune
They reached into another round for O'Donnell Fortune, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick133 Rnd4 Ryan Fitzgerald
They bypassed pressing needs at running back to take Ryan Fitzgerald, a specialist that was not the priority.
Pick136 Rnd4 Tyler Shough
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Shough at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick137 Rnd4 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dont'e Thornton Jr. this early at the 137th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick150 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at Round 5, Pick 12 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick176 Rnd5 CJ West
They liked CJ West enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 176. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick177 Rnd6 Oronde Gadsden II
They paid a round early for Oronde Gadsden II in pick 177, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Pick180 Rnd6 Que Robinson
By-the-book stuff, Que Robinson at No. 180 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick183 Rnd6 Ajani Cornelius
A tidy bit of business in the 183rd overall pick, where Ajani Cornelius graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick206 Rnd6 Willie Lampkin
Willie Lampkin at No. 206 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick210 Rnd6 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
Quietly one of the better values of the day, KeAndre Lambert-Smith at the 210th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
