Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall

FutureB-
The Cowboys won the night they stopped Wheatley from sliding. Grade: B-. The rest of the league will want that one back. Zakee Wheatley tumbling to the Cowboys in Round 4, Pick 15 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The cost of the Hood reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In No. 15 they get a green-dot type in the middle. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick31
Rnd1
Quincy Rhodes Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge, though the board says they badly overpaid. Need was not the driver here.
Pick47
Rnd2
Colton Hood
They reached into another round for Colton Hood, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick115
Rnd4
Zakee Wheatley
You do not let a safety like Zakee Wheatley reach the 115th overall pick and blink. They did not. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick155
Rnd5
Zane Durant
They reached a country mile for Zane Durant at slot 155, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick176
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jermaine Mathews Jr.. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick179
Rnd5
Bud Clark
They jumped the gun on Bud Clark, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick221
Rnd7
Barion Brown
They paid a round early for Barion Brown in Round 7, Pick 6, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick233
Rnd7
Lawson Luckie
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Lawson Luckie well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
