Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall

FutureC+
Best value of the weekend goes to the Cowboys for Mustapha: C+. When a board-topper like Malik Mustapha slides to the Round 6 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Cowboys did not.
They will need Allen to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
If T'Vondre Sweat and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick35
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
They reached into another round for T'Vondre Sweat, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick56
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 56th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick71
Rnd3
Blake Corum
They took Blake Corum at par in pick No. 71, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick87
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in No. 87 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick104
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen at pick 104 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick140
Rnd5
Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio in slot 140 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick191
Rnd6
Kitan Oladapo
They barely believed it either: Kitan Oladapo still on the board at Round 6, Pick 16. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick194
Rnd6
Malik Mustapha
Taking Malik Mustapha in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick219
Rnd6
Nathaniel Watson
A real head-scratcher, Nathaniel Watson in the Round 6 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick246
Rnd7
Donovan Jennings
Donovan Jennings at pick 246 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
