Best value of the weekend goes to the Browns for Rourke: A. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Kurtis Rourke got past him. The Browns do not have to explain a thing at slot 217.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Pat Surtain II pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, with Jalon Walker leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Jalon Walker
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at fair value. More want than need.
Pick33
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Walter Nolen graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick37
Rnd2
Jaxson Dart
No edge and no loss on Jaxson Dart in the 37th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick67
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson slipping to pick 67 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick94
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Value with a capital V on Donovan Jackson in pick No. 94, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick103
Rnd4
Tai Felton
Tai Felton at the 103rd pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick165
Rnd5
Terrance Ferguson
A tight end of that caliber at slot 165 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick181
Rnd6
Nick Nash
They will replay Nick Nash at No. 181 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick194
Rnd6
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius in the 194th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick202
Rnd6
Cobee Bryant
Steal is underselling it; Cobee Bryant at pick No. 202 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick216
Rnd6
Upton Stout
The board fumbled Upton Stout all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick217
Rnd6
Kurtis Rourke
Taking Kurtis Rourke in No. 217 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick257
Rnd7
Trevor Etienne
They barely believed it either: Trevor Etienne still on the board at the 257th pick. It fills a real need, too.
