Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
Grand theft in the Round 7 slot: the 49ers steal Williams and grade out a D-.

The phones were a trap the 49ers kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.

They are betting Cooper proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The Williams steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In No. 4 they get a problem off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick11 Rnd1 Will Johnson
In the 11th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. More want than need.
Pick24 Rnd1 Nick Emmanwori
In the 24th pick they get an enforcer at safety at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick75 Rnd3 Demetrius Knight Jr.
A tidy bit of business in slot 75, where Demetrius Knight Jr. graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick97 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at Round 3, Pick 33 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick99 Rnd3 Charles Grant
Good price on Charles Grant in pick No. 99, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick112 Rnd4 Ozzy Trapilo
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Ozzy Trapilo in pick 112, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138 Rnd4 Terrance Ferguson
A tight end of that caliber at No. 138 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick139 Rnd4 Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick140 Rnd5 Tyler Cooper
A real head-scratcher, Tyler Cooper in the 140th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick148 Rnd5 Jonah Monheim
They liked Jonah Monheim enough to skip the value, taking him in the 148th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick161 Rnd5 Lathan Ransom
Circle this one: Lathan Ransom at slot 161 is a fall that decides a draft. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick189 Rnd6 LeQuint Allen
Steal is underselling it; LeQuint Allen at Round 6, Pick 11 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick228 Rnd7 Oronde Gadsden II
The board fumbled Oronde Gadsden II all the way to pick No. 228, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick232 Rnd7 Miles Frazier
A premium they did not need to pay, Miles Frazier a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick255 Rnd7 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at slot 255 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
