Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Lions.

There is a lot to like until you notice offensive lineman is still a hole. The Lions never got to the one that mattered most. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

That DeJean pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Every board in the league had Lachey lower, and that gap is the story.

Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson at pick 27 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick59 Rnd2 Landon Jackson
No edge and no loss on Landon Jackson in slot 59; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick76 Rnd3 Cooper DeJean
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper DeJean at the 76th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick91 Rnd3 Luke Lachey
They jumped the gun on Luke Lachey, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick164 Rnd5 Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom in No. 164 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick205 Rnd6 Ricky Pearsall
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ricky Pearsall in the Round 6 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick248 Rnd7 Miyan Williams
Miyan Williams at Round 7, Pick 28 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
