Oz DRAFTING FOR THEBengals

Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall
B
ValueA-

FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Bengals, and a B to prove it. The Bengals did not so much draft Thor Griffith as overpay for him, 62 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
However the rest shakes out, Jackson at that price is a win they earned. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
They chose more darts over a bigger single swing.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In slot 17 they get a bell-cow for the offense at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick49
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
They barely believed it either: Tyler Warren still on the board at the Round 2 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick81
Rnd3
Bradyn Swinson
Somehow Bradyn Swinson was still sitting there in No. 81, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick119
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
Taking Donovan Jackson in Round 4, Pick 17 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick153
Rnd5
Cody Simon
A linebacker of that caliber at the 153rd pick is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick205
Rnd6
R.J. Mickens
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 205 with a little surplus value in R.J. Mickens. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick236
Rnd7
Thor Griffith
Value said wait; Thor Griffith in No. 236 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick248
Rnd7
Garrett Dellinger
Garrett Dellinger at the 248th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
