Draft Grade — Bengals

FutureA+
The Bengals won the night they stopped Keegan from sliding. Grade: D+. When a board-topper like Trevor Keegan slides to Round 6, Pick 42, you do not overthink it, and the Bengals did not. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D+.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Goncalves has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
In No. 26 they get a disruptive interior force, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
A tidy bit of business in the 49th pick, where Ja'Tavion Sanders graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick53
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 2 slot with a little surplus value in Cooper Beebe. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick83
Rnd3
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick 83. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at pick No. 97 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick102
Rnd4
DJ James
DJ James in the 102nd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick106
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves in Round 4, Pick 6 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick154
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey at slot 154 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick158
Rnd5
James Williams
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, James Williams in slot 158, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick217
Rnd6
Trevor Keegan
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 6, Pick 42 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick224
Rnd7
Trente Jones
They barely believed it either: Trente Jones still on the board at pick 224. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
