FutureB-
The Bengals fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. The tape said wait; the Bengals did not. David Walker went at Round 3, Pick 2, a good 91 picks before the board was ready.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Simon. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Adding Tank Dell by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In the Round 1 slot they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks at No. 49 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick58
Rnd2
Armand Membou
Armand Membou in the 58th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick66
Rnd3
David Walker
David Walker at the 66th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick81
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 81 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick117
Rnd4
Mason Taylor
Mason Taylor in pick 117 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick126
Rnd4
Vernon Broughton
They paid a round early for Vernon Broughton in Round 4, Pick 25, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick152
Rnd5
Jaylin Noel
The board had Jaylin Noel higher than slot 152, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick191
Rnd6
Cody Simon
Cody Simon in No. 191 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
