Draft Grade — Bengals

The Bengals let Lacy fall and pounced. Final grade: B-.

Somebody in slot 152 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bengals sat still while Kyren Lacy, the No. 119 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

They will need McLaughlin to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker in No. 17 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick49 Rnd2 Jordan James
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan James. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick81 Rnd3 Charles Grant
They jumped the gun on Charles Grant, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick117 Rnd4 Jake Majors
The board fumbled Jake Majors all the way to the 117th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick152 Rnd5 Kyren Lacy
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 15 is the definition of value, full stop. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick191 Rnd6 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at slot 191 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
