Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall D

Larceny in No. 252 lands the Bengals a D, Moore and all.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bengals did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.

Getting Moore where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Foster has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through linebacker.

They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and linebacker is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Dani Dennis-Sutton
In pick 25 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value.
Pick49 Rnd2 A.J. Harris
Value with a capital V on A.J. Harris in the 49th overall pick, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick57 Rnd2 Makai Lemon
They robbed the room for Makai Lemon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick89 Rnd3 Domonique Orange
A straight-up fair deal on Domonique Orange at the 89th pick, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick125 Rnd4 Kage Casey
A conviction pick on Kage Casey at pick No. 125 that the board grades a round light. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick164 Rnd5 Bryce Foster
A reach for Bryce Foster in the Round 5 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick203 Rnd6 Malik Hartford
Malik Hartford at No. 203 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick238 Rnd7 Jack Velling
Jack Velling slipping to slot 238 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick252 Rnd7 Dante Moore
Steal is underselling it; Dante Moore at the 252nd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
