Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Bengals. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bengals did exactly that with Zion Logue in Round 7, Pick 15.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick 18 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49
Rnd2
Malachi Corley
By-the-book stuff, Malachi Corley at pick No. 49 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick80
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
Circle this one: Payton Wilson at Round 3, Pick 16 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick116
Rnd4
Sataoa Laumea
They took Sataoa Laumea at par in slot 116, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick148
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones in the 148th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick175
Rnd5
Malik Mustapha
Malik Mustapha at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick196
Rnd6
Nathan Thomas
A reach for Nathan Thomas in pick 196; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick235
Rnd7
Zion Logue
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Zion Logue well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick252
Rnd7
Evan Anderson
Evan Anderson at pick No. 252 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
