The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bengals and Ransom: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bengals were there to profit. Lathan Ransom, the No. 109 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 5 slot. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the 17th overall pick they get a load in the middle at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick49
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell slipping to pick No. 49 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
Pick81
Rnd3
Harold Fannin Jr.
Harold Fannin Jr. in the 81st pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick118
Rnd4
Luke Kandra
A tidy little value on Luke Kandra in pick 118, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick154
Rnd5
Lathan Ransom
Steal is underselling it; Lathan Ransom at No. 154 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick195
Rnd6
Ollie Gordon II
Circle this one: Ollie Gordon II at slot 195 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
