Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB FutureB-
The Bengals robbed the room for Sampson. Final grade: B.

Call it larceny. Dylan Sampson sat on the board until pick 118, and the Bengals did not need to be asked twice. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Tuimoloau reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The trade work was a quiet net positive.

Tight end is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Luther Burden III
In the 25th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
A reach on JT Tuimoloau in slot 49; the board had better options right there. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick57 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
Nothing to complain about; Tyleik Williams went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick81 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
Somehow Xavier Watts was still sitting there in pick 81, and they pounced on premier safety value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick118 Rnd4 Dylan Sampson
Circle this one: Dylan Sampson at Round 4, Pick 17 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick126 Rnd4 Jake Majors
They will replay Jake Majors at pick No. 126 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick152 Rnd5 Mason Taylor
You do not let a tight end like Mason Taylor reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick192 Rnd6 Jay Higgins
They robbed the room for Jay Higgins here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
