FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bengals and Majors: B+. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jake Majors got past him. The Bengals do not have to explain a thing at the 150th overall pick.
They will need Bech to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Adding CJ Henderson by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
Nothing to complain about; Abdul Carter went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jahdae Barron
Jahdae Barron in the 44th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick54
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Circle this one: Omarion Hampton at Round 2, Pick 22 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick78
Rnd3
Mello Dotson
A big swing on Mello Dotson at pick No. 78, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick85
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Deone Walker at the 85th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick114
Rnd4
Jack Bech
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jack Bech. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick150
Rnd5
Jake Majors
Jake Majors in No. 150 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick190
Rnd6
Miles Frazier
No edge and no loss on Miles Frazier in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
