FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bengals and Carter: B. When a board-topper like Abdul Carter slides to the 50th overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Bengals did not. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. If Johnson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau at pick 21 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick50
Rnd2
Abdul Carter
They robbed the room for Abdul Carter here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick82
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Donovan Jackson at the 82nd pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick85
Rnd3
Rod Moore
Rod Moore slipping to No. 85 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick114
Rnd4
Jonah Monheim
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jonah Monheim reach slot 114 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jacobee Bryant
Circle this one: Jacobee Bryant at the 117th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick146
Rnd5
Antonio Williams
Value with a capital V on Antonio Williams in the Round 5 slot, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick149
Rnd5
Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott is a better player than pick No. 149 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick178
Rnd6
Tim Smith
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tim Smith. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick210
Rnd7
Jake Johnson
A reach on Jake Johnson in slot 210; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
