Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Bengals.

Nobody had Hayden Hatten this high, and it is not close. The Bengals reached 59 spots to get him at the Round 7 slot. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with linebacker and quarterback still on the board. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the linebacker spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
In pick 18 they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
Pick49 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick80 Rnd3 Maason Smith
A curious use of slot 80. Linebacker and quarterback needed the pick; a DT-EDGE in Maason Smith did not.
Pick115 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott in the 115th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick151 Rnd5 Jaylen Wright
No edge and no loss on Jaylen Wright in the 151st overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick173 Rnd5 Kitan Oladapo
Kitan Oladapo at Round 5, Pick 37 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick196 Rnd6 Christian Jones
Christian Jones in pick 196 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick238 Rnd7 Dwight McGlothern
They reached into another round for Dwight McGlothern, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick254 Rnd7 Hayden Hatten
A big swing on Hayden Hatten at pick No. 254, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
