Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Puni should have been long gone. The Bengals pounced, and earned a B.

Somebody in the 154th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bengals sat still while Dominick Puni, the No. 98 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

The skill positions did well by the weekend.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In slot 17 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49 Rnd2 Jonathon Brooks
Jonathon Brooks at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick81 Rnd3 Amarius Mims
A straight-up fair deal on Amarius Mims at pick No. 81, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick117 Rnd4 D.J. James
D.J. James in pick 117 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick154 Rnd5 Dominick Puni
Steal is underselling it; Dominick Puni at the 154th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick173 Rnd5 Antwaun Powell-Ryland
They will replay Antwaun Powell-Ryland at No. 173 for years; that is how good the value is. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick195 Rnd6 De'Corian Clark
Circle this one: De'Corian Clark at Round 6, Pick 20 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick238 Rnd7 Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson in the 238th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick254 Rnd7 Hayden Hatten
Hayden Hatten slid further than he should have, and the 254th overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
