Oz DRAFTING FOR THEBengals

Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall

FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Bengals: B-. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Hayden Hatten at the 254th overall pick, a reach of 68 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Sanders falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick49
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
A reach for T'Vondre Sweat in slot 49; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick80
Rnd3
Ja'Tavion Sanders
Ja'Tavion Sanders at the 80th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick115
Rnd4
Max Melton
Max Melton at No. 115 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick151
Rnd5
Dylan Laube
A tidy little value on Dylan Laube in the 151st pick, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick173
Rnd5
Theo Wease Jr.
They took Theo Wease Jr. at par in pick 173, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick196
Rnd6
Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett at the 196th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick238
Rnd7
Dwight McGlothern
They barely believed it either: Dwight McGlothern still on the board at No. 238. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick254
Rnd7
Hayden Hatten
They talked themselves into Hayden Hatten at Round 7, Pick 34, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
