Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Bengals.

Nobody else had Matthew Jones anywhere near No. 245. The Bengals did, by 46 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

They will regret leaving linebacker for another day if the season turns on it. The Gillotte pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick56 Rnd2 Jonathon Brooks
They paid sticker price for Jonathon Brooks in pick 56, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick88 Rnd3 McKinnley Jackson
Nothing to complain about; McKinnley Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick124 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
They took Khyree Jackson at par in the 124th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick161 Rnd5 Ainias Smith
Ainias Smith in pick No. 161 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick173 Rnd5 Ashton Gillotte
Nice patience on Ashton Gillotte, who had no business lasting to No. 173. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick202 Rnd6 Dallin Holker
No drama and no debate, Dallin Holker went about where he belonged in pick No. 202. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick245 Rnd7 Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones in Round 7, Pick 25 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick254 Rnd7 Hayden Hatten
Hayden Hatten at pick 254 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
