Oz DRAFTING FOR THEBengals

Draft Grade — Bengals

FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Bengals. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bengals reached some 63 spots for Hayden Hatten, and value like that does not grow back. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
On value alone, McGlothern makes the weekend a net positive. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through linebacker. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
JC Latham
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Pick49
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Fair-plus on Chris Braswell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick80
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. at pick 80 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick116
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
They liked Ben Sinnott enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 116. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick148
Rnd5
Dylan Laube
No drama and no debate, Dylan Laube went about where he belonged in the 148th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick175
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
Circle this one: Kitan Oladapo at No. 175 is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick196
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
A cornerback of that caliber at the 196th pick is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick235
Rnd7
Matthew Jones
A reach on Matthew Jones in slot 235; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick252
Rnd7
Hayden Hatten
Hayden Hatten at Round 7, Pick 32 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
