Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Bengals checked most of the boxes and earned a B.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Bengals would have aced it. DeMonte Capehart at the 238th overall pick is 31 spots clear of where he belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Burton at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In pick 18 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, and a steal at that.
Pick49 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
A straight-up fair deal on Ja'Tavion Sanders at Round 2, Pick 17, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick80 Rnd3 Jermaine Burton
Jermaine Burton in the Round 3 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick115 Rnd4 Cooper Beebe
They did well to land Cooper Beebe in pick No. 115, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick151 Rnd5 Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson in the 151st pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick173 Rnd5 Josh Proctor
By-the-book stuff, Josh Proctor at slot 173 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick196 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
Nothing to complain about; Michael Barrett went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick238 Rnd7 DeMonte Capehart
A swing that ignored the value entirely, DeMonte Capehart well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick254 Rnd7 Rondell Bothroyd
Rondell Bothroyd at pick 254 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
