Grand theft in slot 254: the Bengals steal McCoy and grade out a B.

Somebody in the 254th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bengals sat still while Bru McCoy, the No. 184 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Sinnott has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 JC Latham
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick49 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
They read the board right and Troy Franklin was the payoff at pick No. 49. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick81 Rnd3 Jaylin Simpson
Good price on Jaylin Simpson in pick 81, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick117 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at the 117th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick154 Rnd5 Tahj Brooks
Nice patience on Tahj Brooks, who had no business lasting to the 154th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick173 Rnd5 Gabriel Murphy
A quiet steal in slot 173: Gabriel Murphy for less than the market said. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick195 Rnd6 Miles Frazier
Fair-plus on Miles Frazier, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick238 Rnd7 Storm Duck
Storm Duck is a better player than the Round 7 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick254 Rnd7 Bru McCoy
Bru McCoy at No. 254 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
