Oz DRAFTING FOR THEBengals
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall

FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Bengals, and a B- to prove it. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Bengals shredded theirs for Carson Steele. He came off 39 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
They banked enough surplus on Jacobs to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will answer for taking defensive back early while cornerback, interior defensive lineman and other spots went begging. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In pick No. 17 they get a building block for the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick49
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at the 49th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick81
Rnd3
Kris Abrams-Draine
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went defensive back with Kris Abrams-Draine while clear needs at cornerback, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat open.
Pick117
Rnd4
Antwane Wells Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 4, Pick 17 with a little surplus value in Antwane Wells Jr.. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick154
Rnd5
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at the 154th pick is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick173
Rnd5
Gabriel Murphy
Fair-plus on Gabriel Murphy, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick195
Rnd6
Carson Steele
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Carson Steele well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick238
Rnd7
Curtis Jacobs
The board fumbled Curtis Jacobs all the way to the 238th pick, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick254
Rnd7
Will Sheppard
They robbed the room for Will Sheppard here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
