Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesC FutureA
The Commanders bet the future on Maye. The board says B.

The Commanders went off the board in a big way for Jared Wiley, 69 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

Whatever Drake Maye becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They banked enough surplus on Cooper to cover a lot of smaller sins.

The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Drake Maye
Drake Maye in pick 5 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick36 Rnd2 Troy Fautanu
No edge and no loss on Troy Fautanu in the 36th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick37 Rnd2 Ladd McConkey
Ladd McConkey at the 37th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick40 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick No. 40 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
A real head-scratcher, Sedrick Van Pran in No. 67 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69 Rnd3 Edgerrin Cooper
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Edgerrin Cooper at slot 69. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick100 Rnd3 Max Melton
A conviction pick on Max Melton at the 100th overall pick that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick102 Rnd4 Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara in the Round 4 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick141 Rnd5 Moose Muhammad III
They paid a round early for Moose Muhammad III in pick 141, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick181 Rnd6 Jawhar Jordan
They reached into another round for Jawhar Jordan, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick223 Rnd7 Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley at the 223rd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
