FutureB-
The 49ers let Williams fall into their laps, and walked away with a A-. The 49ers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and James Williams fell into Round 6, Pick 1.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
JC Latham
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick63
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Nubin at slot 63 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick124
Rnd4
McKinnley Jackson
They took McKinnley Jackson at par in the 124th pick, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick131
Rnd4
Jalen McMillan
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 131st overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick133
Rnd4
Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler is a better player than pick 133 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick176
Rnd6
James Williams
They will replay James Williams at pick No. 176 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick211
Rnd6
Braiden McGregor
Somehow Braiden McGregor was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 36, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick215
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
They barely believed it either: Tanor Bortolini still on the board at No. 215. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick251
Rnd7
Ryan Watts
They jumped the gun on Ryan Watts, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
