The Patriots cashed the board's mistake on Ayomanor: A-. Call it larceny. Elic Ayomanor sat on the board until Round 5, Pick 1, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Reaching for Hancock left real value on the table behind him.
Bottom line, with Wyatt Milum leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick19
Rnd1
Wyatt Milum
In slot 19 they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Nic Scourton
By-the-book stuff, Nic Scourton at Round 2, Pick 1 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick36
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick43
Rnd2
Deone Walker
A reasonable price with a little left over, Deone Walker in the 43rd pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick52
Rnd2
Josh Conerly Jr.
They paid sticker price for Josh Conerly Jr. in the 52nd overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick68
Rnd3
Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland at pick 68 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick86
Rnd3
Jalen Royals
A quiet steal in pick No. 86: Jalen Royals for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick94
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Andrew Mukuba at No. 94 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick103
Rnd4
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren at the 103rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick125
Rnd4
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at slot 125 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick139
Rnd5
Elic Ayomanor
You do not let a wide receiver like Elic Ayomanor reach pick No. 139 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick164
Rnd5
Kyle Monangai
Kyle Monangai at pick 164 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
