FutureB
More right than wrong for the Bears, and a B to prove it. The Bears spent real capital to be 24 picks early on Jake Briningstool, and the board is going to hold them to it.
Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In pick No. 4 they get a building block for the line at fair value.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
By-the-book stuff, Rome Odunze at pick 9 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick21
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In slot 21 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
No edge and no loss on Chop Robinson in the 35th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick75
Rnd3
Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick85
Rnd3
Trey Benson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Trey Benson in Round 3, Pick 22. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick110
Rnd4
Cooper Beebe
A straight-up fair deal on Cooper Beebe at the 110th pick, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick125
Rnd4
Cam Hart
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cam Hart. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick146
Rnd5
Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis at pick No. 146 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick186
Rnd6
DeWayne Carter
DeWayne Carter at pick 186 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick232
Rnd7
Jake Briningstool
They reached into another round for Jake Briningstool, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
