FutureB-
Larceny in the 156th overall pick lands the Bears a B+, Stewart and all. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Evan Stewart got past him. The Bears do not have to explain a thing at slot 156.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Caldwell pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
The La'el Collins pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Landon Jackson
In No. 25 they get juice off the edge, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Deone Walker
By-the-book stuff, Deone Walker at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick50
Rnd2
Abdul Carter
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Abdul Carter. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jonah Savaiinaea
A straight-up fair deal on Jonah Savaiinaea at pick 59, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick82
Rnd3
Kevin Winston Jr.
They liked Kevin Winston Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 82. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick126
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
A clean, defensible pick in the 126th overall pick with a little surplus value in Davison Igbinosun. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick156
Rnd5
Evan Stewart
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Evan Stewart in Round 5, Pick 18, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick200
Rnd6
Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell in pick No. 200 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick246
Rnd7
Anthony Belton
A reasonable price with a little left over, Anthony Belton in pick No. 246. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick256
Rnd7
Mitchell Evans
Mitchell Evans at slot 256 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
