Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA- FutureB+
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Commanders.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Tanor Bortolini at pick 184 is 33 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.

The Solomon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, running back and other spots still on the board. The James pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In slot 9 they get a building block for the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick27 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
A tidy little value on Amarius Mims in pick No. 27, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick36 Rnd2 Darius Robinson
They took Darius Robinson at par in the 36th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick38 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell at the 38th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick40 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick67 Rnd3 Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard at No. 67 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick69 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
No edge and no loss on Cooper Beebe in pick No. 69; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick101 Rnd4 DJ James
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and DJ James at Round 4, Pick 1 is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick103 Rnd4 Javon Solomon
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went OLB-EDGE with Javon Solomon while clear needs at quarterback, running back and other spots sat open.
Pick106 Rnd4 Malik Washington
Nice patience on Malik Washington, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138 Rnd5 Jaylin Simpson
They did well to land Jaylin Simpson in slot 138, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick181 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
Value said wait; Jared Wiley in No. 181 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick184 Rnd6 Tanor Bortolini
A wild overpay on Tanor Bortolini in the 184th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick220 Rnd6 Trey Knox
Trey Knox at pick 220 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
