Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesC+ FutureB-
The 49ers answered their biggest question with Sanders. Grade: B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The 49ers watched Cam Ward slide 222 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

The whole projection now runs through Shedeur Sanders; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The McLaughlin reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.

Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Shedeur Sanders
In slot 11 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Cameron Williams
Cameron Williams at Round 2, Pick 11 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jalon Walker
A linebacker of that caliber at the 75th pick is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jake Majors
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 11, where Jake Majors graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick135 Rnd4 Dylan Fairchild
Circle this one: Dylan Fairchild at pick 135 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Jahdae Barron
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Jahdae Barron in No. 138, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick147 Rnd5 Armand Membou
They barely believed it either: Armand Membou still on the board at the Round 5 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick187 Rnd6 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at pick No. 187 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick226 Rnd7 Tre Harris
Tre Harris in the 226th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick230 Rnd7 Cam Ward
Cam Ward in slot 230 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick249 Rnd7 Josaiah Stewart
You do not let an edge rusher like Josaiah Stewart reach Round 7, Pick 33 and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick252 Rnd7 T.J. Sanders
They robbed the room for T.J. Sanders here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick256 Rnd7 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
The board fumbled Dont'e Thornton Jr. all the way to slot 256, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
