The Bears ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.

It is not that Smith is a bad player; it is that the Bears had louder needs to answer first. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Landing Ford that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Bears clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
