Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB- TradesF FutureB
Williams is the plan now, and the Bears grade out a D+.

Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.

Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The Bears indulged a want in Bullard while a need in edge rusher and linebacker stayed open. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

They banked enough surplus on McCoy to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In pick 1 they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick20 Rnd1 Javon Bullard
A surprising call. With edge rusher and linebacker still to address, they spent pick No. 20 on Javon Bullard, a defensive back they were not short of.
Pick52 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
They did well to land Jordan Morgan in the 52nd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick68 Rnd3 Mekhi Wingo
A tidy little value on Mekhi Wingo in slot 68, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick104 Rnd4 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson slipping to the 104th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick132 Rnd4 Donovan Jackson
No edge and no loss on Donovan Jackson in No. 132; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick141 Rnd5 Jack Nelson
No drama and no debate, Jack Nelson went about where he belonged in Round 5, Pick 5. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick182 Rnd6 Kamal Hadden
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kamal Hadden in the Round 6 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick225 Rnd7 Bru McCoy
Steal is underselling it; Bru McCoy at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
