Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueC+

TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bears checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Bears took Dani Dennis-Sutton a full 27 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In slot 25 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick57
Rnd2
Dani Dennis-Sutton
They reached into another round for Dani Dennis-Sutton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick89
Rnd3
Darrell Jackson Jr.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darrell Jackson Jr.. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick129
Rnd4
Jakobe Thomas
Good price on Jakobe Thomas in No. 129, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick163
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
No edge and no loss on Jermaine Mathews Jr. in the 163rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick239
Rnd7
Will Kacmarek
By-the-book stuff, Will Kacmarek at the 239th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick241
Rnd7
Alex Harkey
Alex Harkey in the 241st overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
