Chicago4lyfe DRAFTING FOR THEBears
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Bears: B-. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Bears spent Round 7, Pick 12 on Desmond Evans, a name most had 43 spots down the list. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The Smith pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 1st overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In pick 9 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Blake Corum
Blake Corum at the 75th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick110
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
A quiet steal in slot 110: Tykee Smith for less than the market said. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick125
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at pick No. 125 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick146
Rnd5
Jaheim Bell
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jaheim Bell at No. 146 is the proof. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick186
Rnd6
Christian Jones
Good price on Christian Jones in pick No. 186, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Pick232
Rnd7
Desmond Evans
They reached a country mile for Desmond Evans at the 232nd pick, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
