Beebe should have been long gone. The Bears pounced, and earned a A. You could see the war room lean forward. Cooper Beebe at Round 4, Pick 10 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They will need Spann-Ford to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In pick 9 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick23
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In slot 23 they get a true top target, outstanding value to boot.
Pick73
Rnd3
Chris Braswell
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Chris Braswell in No. 73. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. slipping to the 75th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick85
Rnd3
Josh Newton
Josh Newton in Round 3, Pick 22 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick110
Rnd4
Cooper Beebe
They robbed the room for Cooper Beebe here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick122
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Leonard Taylor III at the Round 4 slot is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick132
Rnd4
Beau Brade
A safety of that caliber at pick No. 132 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick146
Rnd5
Cedric Gray
Value with a capital V on Cedric Gray in slot 146, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick207
Rnd6
Rasheen Ali
They let Rasheen Ali come to them and pounced at Round 6, Pick 32. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick210
Rnd6
Christian Jones
Nice patience on Christian Jones, who had no business lasting to pick 210. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick215
Rnd6
Brevyn Spann-Ford
Brevyn Spann-Ford at the 215th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick250
Rnd7
Zion Logue
No drama and no debate, Zion Logue went about where he belonged in pick No. 250. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
