FutureB-
Daniels is the plan now, and the Bears grade out a C+. The Bears spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Ro Torrence, the No. 177 name on the board, in Round 7, Pick 33. A mixed bag that lands at C+.
They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. Every board in the league had Glaze lower, and that gap is the story. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
Hit on Jayden Daniels and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In slot 5 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value.
Pick9
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick37
Rnd2
Cooper DeJean
Nice patience on Cooper DeJean, who had no business lasting to the 37th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69
Rnd3
Keon Coleman
You do not let a wide receiver like Keon Coleman reach Round 3, Pick 5 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Pick75
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
The board fumbled Xavier Legette all the way to pick No. 75, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick122
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
A premium they did not need to pay, Mohamed Kamara a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick154
Rnd5
Delmar Glaze
They reached into another round for Delmar Glaze, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick155
Rnd5
Justin Eboigbe
They did well to land Justin Eboigbe in pick 155, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick225
Rnd7
Trey Knox
Trey Knox at the 225th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick253
Rnd7
Ro Torrence
Ro Torrence at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick254
Rnd7
C.J. Hanson
A reach for C.J. Hanson in the 254th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
