A franchise passer in Williams headlines a D weekend for the Bears.

The Bears lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

That Zinter pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In No. 1 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
Nice patience on Troy Franklin, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 1. The roster fit checks out.
Pick65 Rnd3 D.J. James
D.J. James in pick No. 65 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick74 Rnd3 Trey Benson
They did well to land Trey Benson in slot 74, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick75 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at the 75th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick101 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
They paid sticker price for Blake Fisher in pick 101, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick109 Rnd4 Zak Zinter
They let Zak Zinter come to them and pounced at the Round 4 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick110 Rnd4 Nelson Ceaser
Nelson Ceaser in the 110th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick122 Rnd4 Justin Eboigbe
They took Justin Eboigbe at par in the 122nd pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick146 Rnd5 Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson in pick No. 146 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick189 Rnd6 Nathan Thomas
Value with a capital V on Nathan Thomas in No. 189, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick244 Rnd7 Jeremy Flax
Jeremy Flax at the 244th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
