Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
Williams is the plan now, and the Bears grade out a D-.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

Everything downstream of Caleb Williams depends on Caleb Williams, and the building knows it. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. However the rest shakes out, Barton at that price is a win they earned.

They will need Powers-Johnson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In slot 1 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick39 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 39th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick70 Rnd3 Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick75 Rnd3 Graham Barton
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 75th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick110 Rnd4 Leonard Taylor III
No drama and no debate, Leonard Taylor III went about where he belonged in pick 110. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick116 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at No. 116 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick122 Rnd4 Dillon Johnson
Dillon Johnson in pick No. 122 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick146 Rnd5 Dallin Holker
Dallin Holker in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
